QUESTIONS OFTEN ASKED BY POTENTIAL RESIDENTS...
Q: What do I do if I need help before or after office hours?
A: Call the 24-hour hotline at (502) 320-3620 for emergency services after office hours.
Q: Can my spouse reside in the shelter with me?
A: Our shelter currently serves homeless single women and homeless families with children, meaning couples with children, single males caring for children and blended families. For couples without children, the female may reside at the shelter, but the male will need to stay elsewhere (we suggest the Access Soup Kitchen and Men's Shelter located nearby at 311 W. Second St) and, if approved by staff, the male can visit in the community room during office hours.
Q: Can I bring my pet?
A: We do not permit personal pets to remain with clients while they are residing at our shelter. We do work with partnering agencies to work out a foster placement for the pet.

QUESTIONS OFTEN ASKED BY POTENTIAL VOLUNTEERS...
Q: How can I volunteer?
A: Office volunteers work Monday-Friday, 9:00 am - 5:00 pm to help answer phones, gather intake information for case managers, work on the computer, inventory supplies, and run errands as needed. Office volunteers generally work either a two-hour or four-hour shift.
House volunteers work at the shelter after business hours, weekends and holidays. The house volunteers provide a presence in the house to assist clients as needed, and to assist when meals are provided by local churches and other organizations. The house volunteer shifts are Monday-Friday 5:00 pm - 9:00 pm, weekend and holiday hours are 9:00 am - 1:00 pm, 1:00 pm - 5:00 pm, and 5:00 pm - 9:00 pm (These hours can be worked in smaller shifts as well.)
Hot-line volunteers carry the phone, provided by the shelter, to assist people with emergency housing needs after hours, weekends, and holidays. We also have volunteers who provide transportation to and from work, doctor’s appointments, lead arts and crafts classes, lead light exercise and life skill classes, and help residents move into their new homes.
Q: What kind of donations do you accept?
A: We gratefully accept unused and unopened personal hygiene items, cleaning supplies, and boxed games.
Q: Do you accept clothing items?
A: We do not directly accept clothing, but we do receive clothing vouchers from the Goodwill Voucher Program for our residents to shop there when they need clothing items. To help us receive these vouchers, take your clothing donations to Goodwill, ask for donations to be applied to the voucher program through Blue Grass Community Action Partnership (BGCAP). BGCAP's Community Developer's office processes and distributes the vouchers. They can be reached at (502) 695-5615.
